Crazy kitchen hacks that you should try!

1. There’s nothing more annoying than wanting to store half of your delicious avocado, only to see that it went completely brown and unpalatable when you get back to it. This happens due to a natural oxidation process. To slow it down, store the avocado with a quarter of an onion in the same container, and you’ll see that it does not go brown as fast anymore. Cool, right?

2. Probably the hardest thing about making a batch of your favourite coconut chutney is actually getting the coconut to crack. What if we told you that all you need to solve your problem has been sitting in your kitchen all this time? Just drill a hole in the shell of the coconut and drain the water, before placing it in the oven for 10-15 minutes on 400º F. This will help crack the shell open and separate the fleshy parts.

3. Is there anything more terrible than bringing over a nice, big bunch of bananas and either have to eat them all up very quickly, or just watch them go brown within the next 2-3 days? We think not. In an attempt to find a way to keep our bananas from going brown so quickly, we came up with the idea of wrapping them in a little cling wrap. This slows the oxidation process down, giving us about 3-4 days longer than before to eat them.

4. The next time you’re cooking and end up putting in way more salt than you intended to start with, don’t worry, you don’t have to go throw the entire dish out. On the contrary it is very easy to deal with extra salt in your cooking. Just throw in a piece of eggplant or potato in the pot. It will absorb all the excess salt in as less as 10 minutes, and your cooking will be back on the right track.

5. Nothing tastes better than fresh, crispy lettuce or spinach. Leafy greens just need to be crisp to retain their deliciousness, don’t you think? To keep them to going slimy, add paper towels to the same container to absorb the moisture. This will help them last for about twice as long as they would otherwise.

6. Its such a drag when you open up that box of your favourite cereal, which you have been craving all day and pour yourself a bowl, only to realize that it has gone stay;e and isn’t crunchy anymore. We know how you spent all these years eating the stale cereal with a grim face, but you don’t have to do that anymore. Just put the bowl in the oven at 375º for 5-10 minutes, and step back and watch as your cereal gets crispy again. Nifty, right?

7. Okay, if anybody asked us what we disliked the most about cooking, chopping onions would win the pot hands down. This pesky problem can be solved very easily though. Just spray your chopping board with some lime juice before you start your chopping. The interaction between the onion and the lime prevents the release of the smell than makes you cry, thus avoiding your problem all together.
