Simple home remedies to prevent hair fall!

Grieving over excess hair fall? Massaging your scalp for a few minutes daily and avoiding combing wet hair will help in preventing it, says an expert.

Dilip Kundlia, director of Oshea Herbals, has shared some tips to prevent hair fall.

* Hair massage treatment: Massaging your scalp for a few minutes daily will help stimulate circulation. Good circulation on the scalp keeps hair follicles active.

*Take olive or coconut oil, mix two drops of lemon in it. Massage it gently into your scalp. Put on a shower cap and leave it on for an hour, then shampoo your hair.

* Homemade hair spa: Blend some drops of olive oil in warm water and dip a heavy towel in the water for two minutes and then cover your hair with the towel. This will give your hair a natural spa.


* Natural juices: You can rub your scalp with either garlic, onion or ginger juice. Leave it on overnight and wash it thoroughly in the morning.

* Do not comb wet hair: It is best not to comb wet hair as this leads to greater chances of hair breakage and fall. Let it be dry or semi-dry before combing.

First focus is to get Maggi back on shelves: Nestle India chief!

Suresh Narayanan, the new India chief of the $97.5 billion Swiss processed food giant Nestle, on Saturday said the popular instant noodle brand Maggi will be back on retail shelves as soon as possible, even as the company will launch more instant snacks and also focus on other areas of operations.

Narayanan, 55, who officially took charge of India operations on Saturday replacing managing director Etienne Benet who stepped down on July 25, said dairy, chocolates and confectioneries will all be in focus to push growth.

"All of this is part of the agenda," he said in a meeting with select media persons, adding that he will focus on five key areas.

"First focus is to get Maggi back. Then put the growth on other categories. Third, to engage more with stakeholders and authorities. Fourth, to improve focus and energies around the environment where we can do better. Finally, engage with our people (employees)," he said.

He also said that the company will launch instant alternate snacking options in India, but did not specify any timeframe for it.

During the hour-long interaction, Narayanan declined any direct comment on the controversy over the ban on Maggi noodles, over which Nestle has moved the Bombay High Court. "We have to get back Maggi on the shelves. As of now, the matter is sub judice. Everything depends on the outcome. Let's wait and see," he said.

He said the controversy had cast a shadow over the rest of Nestle's portfolio and the company will enhance its marketing and advertising activities to tide over the situation.

Having specifically flown in to India from Manila, where he was overseeing the Philippines operations as chairman, Narayanan said he had faced a host of challenges in his career and that the current one too would tide over.

The Bombay High Court is expected to deliver its verdict on the Maggi ban on Monday.
Asked whether the company management strategically roped in an Indian face, who speaks Hindi, to tide over the current crisis period, he said: "My being an Indian, my boss says, is icing on the cake. Since I can speak the Hindi language, I can feel the heartbeat of the people."

An alumnus of the Delhi School of Economics, Narayanan also allayed fears of any job cut in the company, which employs 7,200 people, anytime soon.

"Every single permanent employee has his job. The situation is not a pleasant one. We have redeployed people to other activities. We will overcome this. We are a people's company. My first task is to bring back people's confidence," he said.

"Maggi is a key part of our business. We will continue to be a part of this country as we have been for the last 100 years," said Narayanan, who has served Nestle for some 16 years, having joined the group in India in 1999.

Asked about the company's interaction with the government, the soft-spoken Nestle India chief, who began his international career in 2003, said: "We are constantly engaged with the authorities."
India's official food regulator on June 5 had banned the sale of Maggi after an allegedly high amount of lead and monosodium glutamate (MSG) were found in samples. Following that, Nestle withdrew all the variants of the noodle, while continuing to maintain that its products were safe.

At the same time, a number of other countries also found the noodle imported from India to be safe. The countries included Britain, Singapore and Canada.

For Nestle India, Maggi was the dominant brand under "prepared dishes and cooking aids" and accounted for 31.5 percent of the sales in 2014. Among the other three divisions, "milk products and nutrition" fetched 47.1 percent, followed by 12.2 percent from chocolates and confectionery" and 9.2 percent from beverages".

The Maggi unit saw a 1.8 percent increase in volumes in 2014 over the previous year and 8.1-percent rise in value at Rs.21.4 billion.

Ebola: WHO announces possible ‘game changer’ vaccine!

Having achieved its “core objective” of scaling up global action to tackle the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, the United Nations Mission for Ebola Emergency Response will officially wind down on Friday, transferring its role to the World Health Organization (WHO), which just announced that an experimental vaccine being tested in Guinea appears to be highly effective and could be a “game changer.”

In WHOs announcement and in results it published on Friday in the medical journal, The Lancet, the UN health agency said the results from an interim analysis of trials in Guinea show that the VSV-EBOV vaccine is highly effective against Ebola, which has killed more than 11,000 people in Liberia, Sierra Leone, as well as Guinea, in an epidemic that has proved devastating for the region. 

The agency said that while the vaccine up to now shows 100 per cent efficacy in individuals, more conclusive evidence is needed on its capacity to protect populations. The Guinea vaccination trial began in affected communities on 23 March 2015 to evaluate the efficacy, effectiveness and safety of a single dose of the vaccine VSV-EBOV by using a so-called ring vaccination strategy, the agency said. 

To date, over 4,000 close contacts of almost 100 Ebola patients, including family members, neighbours, and co-workers, have voluntarily participated in the trial, it said. Describing the initial results as promising and exciting, WHO Executive Director said. Dr. Margaret Chan told reporters, I would like to say that if proven effective, this is going to be a game-changer. It will change the management of the current Ebola outbreak and future outbreaks. Meanwhile, saying the world had reached an important milestone in the global Ebola response, UNSecretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced that the UN Mission for Ebola Emergency Response UNMEER will close today and hand over its leadership role to WHO. The Mission has achieved its core objective of scaling up the response on the ground and establishing unity of purpose among responders in support of the nationally led efforts, Ban said, adding that as of 1 August, oversight of the UN systems Ebola emergency response will fully be led by WHO under the direct authority of its Director-General, Dr. Chan. 

The United Nations remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting the Governments of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone in getting to and staying at zero cases, the UN chief said. His Special Envoy on Ebola, Dr. David Nabarro, who will continue to provide strategic guidance for the response, told reporters in Geneva that the UN mission was always designed to be a temporary measure, and when it was no longer needed, the UN system would go back to its more normal disposition in responding to the outbreak. UNMEER, the first-ever UN emergency health mission, was established on 19 September 2014 to meet immediate needs related to the unprecedented fight against Ebola. 

The Mission deployed financial, logistical and human resources to Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone to support the push to zero cases. In the WHO announcement, Dr. Chan said the credit for the Ebola vaccine development goes to the Guinean Government, the people living in the communities and WHOs partners in this project. The trial is being implemented by the Guinean authorities, WHO, Mdecins sans Frontires (MSF) and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, with support from a broad partnership of international and national organizations. 

Dr. Marie-Paule Kieny, who leads WHOs Ebola Research and Development effort, described the pace of the development as record-breaking that marks a turning point in the history of health RD. According to WHO, the vaccine was developed by the Public Health Agency of Canada. The vaccine was licensed to NewLink Genetics, and on 24 November 2014, Merck Co., Inc and NewLink Genetics Corp. entered into an exclusive worldwide licensing agreement wherein Merck assumed responsibility to research, develop, manufacture, and distribute the investigational vaccine.
