Flavia Pennetta beats fellow Italian Roberta Vinci, 7-6, 6-2, to win the 2015 US Open women's final.
This is Pennetta’s first career Grand Slam singles title. The finalists have known each other since childhood growing up in Italy.
Vinci stunned Serena Williams 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in her semifinal match Friday. Pennetta upset Simona Halep 6-3,6-1 in the other semifinal match.
