Kitchen ingredients that work like medicines!

Turmeric:

Turmeric is a popular ingredient extensively used in Indian Kitchen with an array of benefits due to its inflammatory, antibacterial and antiseptic properties. It can use used to heal cuts, wounds, reduce joint paints and inflammation.
Tip:
Add turmeric to hot milk and consume to get relief from body pain.

Ginger:

Another common kitchen ingredient, ginger has anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, antifungal, antiseptic, antibacterial and antiviral properties and is used in treating indigestion, heartburn, nausea, motion sickness and menstrual cramps.
Tip:
Mix ginger and honey to create a concoction that is useful in combating cough and cold due to seasonal change.

Cinnamon:

Cinnamon is valued for its antioxidant, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties and is used to treat common cold, digestive issues like flatulence, heartburn and painful menstruation. It is also found that regular consumption of cinnamon helps in controlling blood sugar levels of people with type 2 diabetes.
Tip:  
Add a pinch of powdered cinnamon to your tea to reduce the risk of having cough, cold and flu due to seasonal change.

Lemon:

Lemon is a super food with natural antioxidant and amazing immune boosting properties. It is used for treating multitude of ailments such as headaches, throat infections, dental problems, indigestion, constipation, arthritis, rheumatism. It aids in weight loss, supports the health of the urinary tract and prevents kidney stones. For effective results you need to add lemon to your regular diet.
Tip:
Consume lemon with warm water every morning to boost your energy. When we wake up in the morning our tissues are dehydrated and in desperate need of fluid to push out toxins.

Garlic:

Garlic has been long hailed as super food for its extraordinary medicinal properties. It is stimulant, diaphoretic, diuretic, expectorant, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral and antiseptic in nature. Crushed or chewed garlic contains a compound called allicin the properties of which are similar to penicillin. Garlic is excellent for common cold, cough, sore throat, sinus problems, ear infection, indigestion, stomach ache and tooth ache. It boosts cardiac health and lowers bad cholesterol levels and keeps blood pressure in check.
Tip:
Effect of garlic on cold and flu comes from Allicin obtained from crushed, raw garlic and is destroyed by over cooking. If you have earache, put two or three drops of warm garlic oil in the ears.

Honey:

Honey has antiviral, antifungal, antiseptic, and antiparasitic properties and is a natural source of carbohydrates which can boost athletic performance and reduce muscle fatigue. It is very in the treatment of cough, throat irritation, stomach ulcers, sleeplessness and morning sickness. You can also use honey to get relief from minor wounds, cuts and burns.
Tip:
Add a tablespoon full of honey in a glass of warm water and drink this mixture daily to flush out harmful toxins and kick-start your day in an energetic way.

Cloves:

Cloves have antioxidant, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, carminative and antiflatulent properties and can be used to combat ailments such as nausea, vomiting, body pain, indigestion and intestinal gas. Because of its analgesic properties, clove oil is commonly used a home remedy to treat toothache temporarily by dabbing a little oil to the affected area. It also treats sore gums and oral ulcers and is used as an inhalant for respiratory problems such as colds, cough, sinusitis, asthma, bronchitis.
Tip:  
Put a few drops of clove oil on a handkerchief and inhale the smell to get relief from nausea. You can also chew one or two cloves.

Cardamom:

Cardamom also known as the “queen of spices” is an amazing spice with antioxidant, antiseptic, carminative, antispasmodic, expectorant and diuretic properties. It gives relief from indigestion and helps combat nausea, gas, bloating and heartburn due to its carminative properties. Cardamom is an effective breath freshener, increases appetite and helps reduce stress levels and ease muscle tension.
Tip:
Boil cardamom and cinnamon in water and gargle every morning to control painful sore throat. Take a few pods of cardamom and boil them in water and drink it to get rid of hiccups.

Onions:

Onions make cry us but they should be tears of joy as they are a great source of chromium, biotin, vitamin C, B1, B6 and K, folic acid and dietary fiber and have excellent anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antibiotic, antimicrobial, and carminative properties. Onions are effective in combating common cold, cough, chronic bronchitis, stomach infections, nausea, and diarrhea. The chromium in onions assist in regulating blood sugar levels in people have type 2 diabetes. Onions carry phytochemicals that improve the working of vitamin C in the body thus boosting the immune system.
Tip:
If you are bitten by a honey bee, cut an onion into 2 halves and rub it gently on the stung area for relief. Quercetin found in onions is a natural anti-histamine and will relieve the allergic side effects of a bee sting. It is also an anti-inflammatory and will give relief to any discomfort in the area around the sting.

Cumin seeds:

Cumin seeds are rich in dietary fiber along with various minerals, such as iron, copper, calcium, potassium, manganese, selenium and zinc. The seeds are very effective in treating indigestion, diarrhea, flatulence, acidity, stomach pain, morning sickness, common cough, cold, fever, sore throat and insomnia.
Tip:
To reduce gas, add a tea spoon of cumin in 2 cups of water and boil the solution until the quantity reduces to half. Drink this infusion daily.
