5 cities where you get paid to live!

Unlike most cities where you must pay through your nose to get by from day to day, these cities will in fact pay you to stay there. These cities offer housing allowance, student loan reimbursement and tax rebate to persuade people to be a part of their community. So if you haven’t settled down or are looking for a place to live, here are some of the options you must consider.

1. Niagara Falls, New York

Niagara Falls, is a city in Niagara County in the state of New York. As you may have guessed, this is the town that is home to the iconic falls. Niagara Falls is home to less than 50,000 people and is currently trying to project itself as a city for the young. It is attempting to attract the youth through several programs. One of them involves annual reimbursements of up to $ 3,492 in college bills for up to two years if you buy or rent a home there. Interested in working as a consultant or a freelancer? Or just being a travel guide perhaps? Niagara Falls is the place to be!

2. Harmony, Minnesota

This quaint little town is home to Niagara Cave and a large Amish population. However, as of 2013, the town was home to just 1,007 residents. So the city decided to attract people by offering cash rebate for constructing new homes offering as much as $ 12,000 depending on the cost and size of the house.

3. Saskatchewan, Canada

This Canadian province has initiated the Graduate Retention Program in an effort to attract college students and persuade them to continue living there. Saskatchewan offers reimbursement of college tuition fees. To take advantage of this program you have to be a recent graduate and have to file a Saskatchewan income tax return.

4. Alaska

The state of Alaska offers annual oil royalty dividend to every Alaskan and it has been giving the incentive since 1976!  25 per cent of the oil income of the state has been directed to a fund, which is then invested in stocks and other assets and the dividends are distributed to the residents every year! In 2014, $ 1.884 was paid to each resident in Alaska. Every Alaskan is eligible for a dividend as long as they are not away from the state for over 180 days or have not been convicted of a felony.

5. Curtis, Nebraska

This tiny town is offering free lots to build your home. The population of this town is projected to decline at a rate of over one per cent annually over the coming five years. To attract new residents, the city is offering free lots to construct your home. Once you are granted the lot, you must start the construction within six months and complete it within 24 months.
